The K-beauty tool that will change the way you apply makeup

Piccasso’s Foundation Spatula creates a sheer, natural-looking foundation finish

Trending in Korea and globally on TikTok, the Piccasso Foundation Tool is the hot new way to apply your foundation for a naturally radiant, glass skin effect. This K-beauty tool is selling out fast in Korea and we’ve brought it to the UK, exclusively to TONIC15. Here’s why everybody is talking about this stainless steel, makeup accessory…

What is it?

This foundation spatula is designed by K-makeup brand Picasso, which is known for its quality and expertise when it comes to makeup tools. It was inspired by a tool used to create special effects makeup. Together with the celebrity Korean face painter Kyungsik Ham, Picasso dreamed up this stainless steel spatula that makes applying a light, thin layer of foundation a breeze!

Why is it trending?

If you want that second skin effect from your foundation without any caking or piling, this base tool will give you just that and it’s super easy to use too.

So how do I use it?

STEP 01

Apply foundation to the back of your hand or on the brand’s Makeup Mixing Palette (details below).

STEP 02

With the spatula on its side (the thin edge) sweep it across your hand or the palette so the foundation gathers along the edge.

STEP 03

Tilt the spatula on an angle to smooth foundation all over your skin as if you’re icing a cake.

STEP 04

Press the latex sponge (part of the kit) into skin around eyes and the nose for more coverage.

How do I clean it?

Simply wash and dry the tool with a gentle soap and it’s good to go for the next use!

What type of foundation should I use with the Piccasso spatula?

The spatula works best with a liquid formula. It doesn’t matter whether it offers a sheer, matte or luminous finish the key is that the formula blends easily so cream and powder foundation types won’t give you the same sheer, second-skin finish as easily.

How is the Piccasso Foundation Tool different to other makeup spatulas?

The makeup spatula has long been used by professional makeup artists in Korea, but not to apply foundation. Ham Kyeongsik, the Korean celebrity artist, who created Piccasso’s Foundation Spatula was the first to make this way of applying foundation popular after years of doing it on his celebrity clients. He designed the tool in such a specific way so that its ideal for applying your base.

Here's exactly how it’s different to other makeup spatulas…

1The edge of the spatula is longer than your typical makeup spatula so you can spread foundation more effortlessly and easily. The handle is also longer making it easier to grip and to create a sweeping movement with your hand when applying foundation.

2The top of the spatula is rounded while the end near the handle is thinner than the top. This ergonomic design allows you to achieve a thin layer of coverage without leaving too many harsh lines on your face.

3The Piccasso tool was crafted with the perfect length to weight ratio. What that means is that you can apply foundation without putting too much pressure on your skin while still ensuring good coverage, so please don't push too hard!

Does Piccasso make any other makeup tools?

They certainly do! Here are our two favourites which can be used together with the spatula for the most natural-looking finish to your makeup application.

Ideal for defining and grooming lashes and brows, the wide-toothed comb of this tool is made from tarnish-resistant stainless steel, so it won’t gather excess product buildup and is super easy to clean. Use it to define your lashes and comb through clumps post-mascara application or sweep it over bare lashes for a naturally groomed finish. We love using this brush on brows too to help tame flyaways, smooth the shape of your arches and as a guide tool for trimming.
